Personal Development Curriculum

Enabling students to contribute meaningfully to society and live fulfilling, enjoyable lives is at the centre of Kenwood Academy’s Personal Development (PD) curriculum.

Kenwood Academy is deeply committed to nurturing, supporting and empowering all students to:

  •  experience good health and well-being
  •  build skills to live independently
  •  feel connected and be able to participate in their local, national and global communities and
  •  engage in further study and/or employment

The PD curriculum has been developed from a strong evidence base and has its roots in two key frameworks:

  •  Preparing for Adulthood (National Development Team for Inclusion ((NDTi)) 2022)
  •  Promoting Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Well-Being: A Whole-School or College Approach to Mental Health (Public Health England/DfE guidance 2021)

These frameworks are not exhaustive and are further underpinned by the:

  • SEND Code of Practice 2015 (Department for Education ((DfE))/Department for Health & Social Care 2015)
  • OFSTED School Inspection Handbook 2024 (DfE/OFSTED)
